Ministry to the Heywood Hospital in Gardner is an important way that we provide care, support, and connection during the trying times when an individual may need to be hospitalized. This ministry team provides access for Catholics to the Eucharist through Eucharistic Minister Visits to the various hospital units. Members of the ministry also provide Visitation and Prayer Ministry for the Catholic population of the hospital, and for others who request it. This visit and prayer can be a powerful support for individuals, and beneficial to their physical, mental, and spiritual healing. Ministers alert one of the priests in the case of a patient who would like to recieve the Sacrament of Reconcilliation or the Sacrament of the Sick. Finally, ministers help to maintain the patient's contact with his/her faith community by informing pastors of their presence in the hospital, bringing religious/spiritual literature as needed, and serving as a link between the patient and their faith community.
Parishioners who are trained and commissioned Eucharistic Ministers can be scheduled to do make Eucharistic Minister VIsits. Anyone can come forward for Visitation and Prayer Ministry. There are many opportunities for such ministry - and you may be able to discover an unknown need for ministry that you can meet!
We also welcome Middle, High School students who wish to participate along with an adult minister.
Young Adults are encouraged to contact the coordinator as well about becoming a minister.
NOTE: There is a short hospital orientation that is required.
